Flagging and coding, from violets and green carnations to red bandanas, has been a part of queer culture for ages as a way to signal desire and availability to those within an Outsider group. Flagging is also a way to explicitly communicate what you’re interested in and opening up a conversation about specific desires!
I’ll give a brief queer history of how flagging and coding have been used to covertly signal same-gender and kinky desire in times when they were criminalised, followed by a practical workshop on different ways of flagging and what different flags mean, including hankies, femme flagging using nail art and other modern and historical queer signifiers. We’ll discuss modern flagging and position participants to flag during the play parties, in one of many ways we negotiate, navigate and communicate desire.
From ancient civilisations to the present day we have used ritual across cultures to process experiences of grief and loss. Learn how to craft your own personalised grief ritual in a gentle, open environment.

Do you hate speed dating? Men move around, women sit down, the same questions over and over again and the pressure to choose someone at the end of the evening. It all feels just a *little bit* forced. So we decided to throw the rules out of the window and create something entirely different. We will be starting with establishing consent and boundaries, followed by a series of fun questions and activities get stuck into. Everyone will be talking to everyone as we don't do gendered seating and we will be adopting our motto of #friendsoverdates because you can never have too many friends.
Access: Mostly sitting around, or short movement in space
Duration: 120 mins

Come and sing! Humans have done it together since they were on this planet, bonding communities tight. Whether you consider yourself a singer or not doesn't matter; you're welcome and encouraged to come along and there’s no audition. We’ll perform on Saturday evening, leading the rest of the summerhouse in song. You don't need to be able to read music (though sheet music will be available should you want) as all the parts will be taught by ear. You only need to come to one rehearsal, but the more people who come to both, the better the choir will sound. Guaranteed to release endorphins and create a shared, happy buzz.
